Church Meeting
Aulne United Methodist Church General Assembly to Discuss Building Project March 12, 2006A congregational meeting held Sunday, March 12 at 1:00 p.m. at the church opened discussion of adding on to the current church building. Those attending viewed current plans for building a new fellowship hall attached to the north side of the sanctuary. Pastor Bethann Black facilitated the meeting, interjecting moments of prayerful contemplation, encouraging members to listen for God’s words. Members of the trustees committee, Dave Hett, Dan Hague (chairman), and Kevin Fruechting explained the plans and answered questions. Rod Just used his laptop computer to jot down comments and project them onto a large screen in front of the assembly. Brenda Riggs provided childcare in the basement. The proposed addition would add 40 feet to the north side of the church and would be 75 feet from west to east, extending several feet beyond the current building on the east side. This plan would be approximately 600 sq. feet larger than the current basement that serves as the fellowship hall. The estimated cost of $291,850 includes a kitchen, men’s and women’s restrooms and a lift that would be accessible from all levels, including the basement. Current funds of approximately $100,000 are available to pay down on the project and Kevin reported an individual had called him and pledged to pay all costs associated with building a new kitchen. Loans of up to $100,000 are available through the Methodist conference for 3% interest for a term of 20 years or less. Questions brought forward at the meeting included:
Don Fruechting, who is a member of Volunteers In Mission (VIM), said the VIM organization could possibly be utilized as volunteer labor for the project. Dave Hett verified that costs on a building project usually divide into approximately 50% labor and 50% materials. Jacquie Cusick asked if the church would have need of an interest free loan? Trustees indicated that would be a desirable option if a loan were needed. No vote was taken on the current proposal and it was agreed to let the trustees come up with alternate plans and cost estimates to present to the congregation when available. All individuals desiring more information or wishing to be more involved are encouraged to attend upcoming administrative council and trustees meetings. A big thank you was given to the trustees for their hard work involved in presenting the current plan. Besides the names listed above, other members of the trustees are Pastor Black, Ed McGinness, and Brenda Riggs. Much time has already been invested in the building project and church members are excited to continue moving forward. |
